While walking through a grocery store the other week, my mind was bouncing between a variety of topics: what was on the shopping list (which I forgot at home), how late it getting & the things I needed to get done before the day ended. Then a kind stranger came over & told me that my child’s singing & smiles had made them smile too.
It can be very challenging to quiet some of our internal thoughts…….so don’t. Instead, focus on looking for the small moments in each day and those other thoughts will begin to dissipate. Things could include: the first sip of coffee, feeling the sun on your face, getting a text from a friend, taking a walk, embracing your hyper pet, sitting on the porch, or waving to that singing child in the store.
Mindfulness means that we are paying attention to our present moment. When we focus on this, we gain new perspectives. We begin feeling thankful for those little things we often overlook and begin feeling less overwhelmed with our emotions and busy lives.
